For celebrating Canada's 150th birthday and Culture Days, for encouraging multicultural creative writing and lightening up community spirit, we will host ‘From Far and Wide - 2017 Multicultural Creative Writing Contest and Festival' with the support from Culture Days, BC Culture Days, City of Richmond, WS Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society, Richmond Culture Centre and Richmond Public Library.

Canada and Me - From Far and Wide
2017 Multicultural Creative Writing Contest
Time: August 16, 2017 - September 15, 2017
Who can submit: everyone has a special connection with Canada include Canadian citizens, permanent residents, international students, refugees and any visitors are in Canada, have been to Canada or have any tie with Canada.
What to write: any story between you and Canada, you can write a poem, essay, short story, drama, song, play, etc. Must be original writing. Each submission shall be no more than 1,000 words; if written in other languages rather than English, please provide English translation or at least a brief English translation. You can provide a brief writer’s introduction and a photo to be published in the book if you want. Submissions are very welcome.
Prize: 150 writings will be selected by WSIMS Contest Committee as 'Most Inspirational Writings 2017" for a publication; among the 150 writings, 15 will be awarded as "Touching Canada 2017" and shared on the Canada 150: From Far and Wide - 2017 Multicultural Creative Writing Festival.
Please note: WS Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society reserves the right to use the submitted works for publication and other purposes.

2017 Multicultural Creative Writing Festival
Time: September 29, 2017 @10am-1pm
Place: Performance Hall, Richmond Culture Centre

Everyone is welcome to participate this event from famous poets and writers to any individual who is passionate about creative writing and is eager to share their original stories about Canada. Selected 15 participants will read their writings in their preferable languages and contribute their unique talent into this event.
A book will be published after the festival for selected 150 submissions and will be sent to every contributor as an appreciation at the annual Christmas and New Year Celebration (postage may apply if mailing is needed).
This event will be a very good opportunity to connect people from all different backgrounds, including but not limited to, European and Asian culture backgrounds; seniors and youth who are simply passionate about creative writing. The goal for this event is bringing community members from different ethnic groups together to celebrate multiculturalism via beautiful creative writing recitals, and simply appreciate the way each is helping the other in Canadian way.
